Toenail Fungus

What is toenail fungus?

Fungal infections can affect the toenails. It occurs when fungi invade and infect the nail bed, causing changes in the appearance, texture, and health of the toenail. The infection can affect one or more toenails and is often caused by dermatophytes (fungi that thrive on keratin) or yeasts. Toenail fungus typically develops when fungi enter the toenail through tiny cracks or injuries to the nail or surrounding skin. The infection thrives in warm, moist environments, which is why toenail fungus is common in people who often wear tight, sweaty shoes or socks.

There are several toenail diseases that can affect the health, strength, and appearance of toenails. Three of the most common toenail conditions include: Ingrown Toenails, Toenail Fungus & Toenail Trauma

If you are concerned that you may be suffering from any of these conditions please please request an appointment at Bigfoot Podiatry or give us a call to schedule.
